The ProVen Probiotics Story
1994-2021
Our story
With over 30 years’ experience in probiotics, coupled with continual research and new product development, ProVen is one of the world’s most respected producers of probiotics.
Cultech established
Cultech was established in 1994 and quickly became internationally recognised as both an innovator and premium quality manufacturer within the nutritional supplement industry.
1994
Lab4 probiotics introduced
Lab4 and Lab4B are lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and bifidobacteria that have been isolated from the gut microbiota of healthy humans and then screened for appropriate probiotic characteristics, ranging from resistance to stomach and bile acids, to robust capability for large-scale in vitro cultivation and commercialisation.
1998
First Lab4 clinical trial
The first clinical study using the Lab4 friendly bacteria was the Cambridge Clostridium difficile Study. This randomised, double-blind, placebo controlled study was designed to provide evidence that supplementing with Lab4 probiotics while taking antibiotics can prevent the incidence of antibiotic associated C. difficile diarrhoea (CDAD).
1999
ProVen Probiotics launched
After more than 10 years of research (including five major clinical trials) and having sold Lab4 probiotics to a number of major probiotics resellers around the world, Dr Nigel Plummer launches his own brand, ProVen Probiotics.
2012

Following launch in 2012, ProVen Probiotics were available to buy via independent pharmacies and health stores throughout the UK.
2012
