Butyric acid provides at least 50% of the energy used by the cells that line the large intestine (colon). It is known as a post-biotic as it is produced by the bacteria in our intestines as part of their natural fermentation of soluble fibre. Butyrate is a major 'cell signalling' molecule in the large intestine, helping to support overall bowel health.

Butyrate or Butyric Acid is the most important energy source for our large intestine (colon), providing at least 50% of the energy required for the cells to function. It doesn't come directly from food, but is produced in the large intestine from the fermentation of soluble fibre by the bacteria in our microbiome.

It is generally recognised that the ideal production of butyrate in the colon is between 4g and 8g each day, but many people do not eat enough soluble fibre to provide this amount.

Butyfull uses tributyrin as its source of butyric acid, which is the most digestible and absorbable form of this compound. It is also micro-encapsulated to ensure it reaches the colon intact.
