Blooming Intimate Flora

What do you know about the bacteria and other microbes that live in your vagina and genital tract? What do they do and why are they important? How do they link to your gut microbiota? What can you do to support them?

Here at ProVen Biotics, we are all about the microbiome - particularly the gut microbiome, but we also know lots about the bacteria that live in other parts of our body too.

One of our key goals for 2026 is to initiate and direct the conversation around the vaginal microbiome and intimate health. It has been the subject of scientific research for at least a decade, and we feel that the world is ready to have this conversation 'out loud'. As experts in the human microbiome, we want to lead this conversation and support women in understanding how bacteria impact intimate health and what they can do to support this aspect of their health.

What is the vaginal microbiome?

The Human Microbiome Project identified more than 500 different strains of bacteria naturally present in the vaginal tract. The dominant species of bacteria are Lactobacillus and the diversity and types of bacteria vary depending upon our stage of life. Lactobacillus strains produce antimicrobial substances that help lower the vaginal pH to create an acidic environment that helps maintain microbial balance.

The Lactobacillus bacteria in the vaginal tract are dominated by four strains - Lactobacillus crispatus, Lactobacillus gasseri, Lactobacillus jensenii and Lactobacillus iners - and this is one area of the body where we are thought to require less diversity of bacteria and more of the Lactobacillus types.

“For me, the vagina is such an integral part of the body. We think the vagina is on the outside. I say grab a mirror and play along. Get in there. Learn about it.”
Cameron Diaz

Biome in Bloom Event

To celebrate the official first day of Spring and the arrival of ProVen Biotics new Women’s Intimate Flora product, ProVen Biotics hosted an exclusive Biome In Bloomfloristry workshop on Friday 20th March 2026.

Throughout the day, around 50 women got together at The Botanique, a specialist floristry venue in London to each create their own unique individual floral display.

Hosted by Dr Pavan Minhas, a leading women’s health expert, alongside ProVen Biotics in-house nutritionist, Adrienne Benjamin, and the wonderful Eve, The Botanique’s floristry expert, the workshop explored:

- The importance of the vaginal microbiome and the link to our gut microbiota

- Making intimate health care a priority in your daily routine - why it is necessary and top tips to consider

- The benefits of ProVen Biotics Women’s Intimate Flora

Frequently Asked Questions

What age are ProVen Biotics Women's Intimate Flora supplements for?

Our Women's Intimate Flora supplement is an oral capsule that is designed for women of all ages - from age 16 and all the way through to post-menopause.

What is the specific need that Women's Intimate Flora is helping to support?

Many of us don't know that our vagina has its own microbiome, that helps to support health in this intimate area of our body.

And most of us don’t realise that the bacterial balance in our vaginal microbiome can be impacted by things like antibiotics, hygiene practices, and hormonal contraceptives, and may need support from time-to-time.

What is the target audience for Women's Intimate Flora?

Targeted at women aged 16+, Women’s Intimate Flora is suitable for any woman concerned with vaginal health and wanting to support both her vaginal and gut microbiota and the general health of her vaginal tract.

What is the dosage of live bacteria in Women’s Intimate Flora?

Women’s Intimate Flora contains a total of 20 billion live bacteria per capsule - 7.5 billion of Lactobacillus gasseri and Lactobacillus crispatus combined and 12.5 billion of the extensively-researched Lab4 live bacteria blend.

As this is an oral capsule, how do the bacteria target the vaginal microbiome?

Bacteria move easily and freely between the intestinal canal (rectum) and the vagina, so oral capsules can help to support the populations of specific types of bacteria in both the gut and vaginal microbiomes.

What is the difference between Women's Intimate Flora and ProVen Biotics For Women?

Women’s Intimate Flora is designed to target the health of the vaginal microbiome, including two of the main Lactobacillus species found in a healthy vaginal microbiome, Lactobacillus crispatus and Lactobacillusgasseri. It includes our Lab4 probiotics consortium as overall support for the gut microbiome, but is targeted specifically at vaginal health. It contains vitamins A and D, which are involved in cell renewal and mucous membrane health, to support the overall health of the vaginal tract.

For Women is designed more for gut and hormonal support (vitamin B6). It does include Lactobacillus gasseri and cranberry extract, but this is a more general product for women.

Can ProVen Biotics Women's Intimate Flora and For Women products be taken together?

Yes, the products can be taken together. Taking them this way would provide around 25 billion Lab4 (which is the clinically researched dose) plus a higher dose of Lactobacillus gasseri, Lactobacillus crispatus, and a range of nutrients (vitamins A, D and B6, and cranberry).

There are no contraindications and no cross-over of vitamins, and taking both products would simply ‘cover more bases’ and provide higher levels of the live bacteria.
