How to use probiotics alongside and following antibiotics
Antibiotics are used commonly for treating infections and their impact on the balance of bacteria in our gut is often not understood.
Taking a course of antibiotics may impact the levels of all bacteria in the gut and not just those we are trying to target, and this may lead to imbalance known as dysbiosis. This can then result in digestive discomfort and other symptoms, such as bloating and gas, or changes in bowel habits.
Our live bacteria supplements are designed to be taken both alongside and following a course of antibiotics to help mitigate the effects of the medication and support bacterial balance.
Should I take friendly bacteria supplements whilst taking antibiotics or once I have finished the course?
We recommend taking our supplements immediately upon starting antibiotics and continuing to take them for at least 6-8 weeks following completion of the course to support re-establishment of the microbiome. They should be taken at least two hours away from a dose of antibiotics to help protect the 'friendly' bacteria in the supplements.
Can ProVen Biotics help to prevent the side effects of antibiotics?
Supporting the microbiome alongside and following antibiotics can help to maintain balance and potentially reduce some of the side effects.
