Our gut bacteria (microbiome) is fundamental to our health. It has a wide range of functions in our body and maintaining a balanced microbiome is key to supporting health.

Antibiotics are designed to kill bacteria that cause disease, but don't target specific bacteria and can lead to an imbalance in the gut microbiome, which may not be restored immediately once the course of antibiotics is complete.

This may cause side effects such as antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and lead to changes in the structure and composition of the gut microbiome.
